The Man Upstairs

8pm (Doors 7.30)

The Man Upstairs return to The Kitchen Garden after their triumphant sold out show last May, which was the first time that they had played together in 31 years.

Lead singer Gerry Colvin (aka Nigel Sewell) and original manager Dave Travis scoured the world searching for the original band members and found most of them living in or around Birmingham, so it was relatively easy really. Carolyn Bennett flew in from USA but that was only One Facebook message, leaving plenty of time for lunchtime planning ‘meetings’ in their favourite pubs.

After intensive rehearsals, The Man Upstairs put together a stunning show of their classic fusion of jazz, indie pop, harmony vocals and poignant lyrics.

In the 1980s, The Man Upstairs were one of the hardest working bands around, touring the length and breadth of the country, preferring to tour the breadth, as it was narrower in those days, so much easier. The famously toured with The Smiths (Morrissey praising their debut EP on Radio 1’s Round Table).

The retrospective CD and Vinyl album, Home From The Picnic, released on Berlin based record label Fire Station has now almost sold out and just a handful of the last remaining copies will be available to buy at the gig.

The band, Gerry Colvin, Rupert Knowlden, Tim Simpson, Carolyn Bennett and Mick Vousden are back in rehearsals soon to make this a night to remember.

Tickets: £10
